Purtell opened Healing Hands Massage Therapy in her 4 Holmes Ave. home on Nov. 7.
Prior to studying massage, Purtell spent seven years as an elementary school teacher in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. She left that job in 2005 and returned to her hometown of Elmira.
